Parts of the new Princesshay development in Exeter have been officially opened now, including a number of new restaurants and cafes. Myself and a few work colleagues decided to try out the new Spanish Tapas restaurant 'La Tasca' yesterday lunch time.
Yes, its new so you expect a few teething problems, but the staff seemed to have no concept of customer service - drinks orders took ages to arrive and were incomplete, food that noone ordered was offered twice and when we tried to order more garlic bread from a waitress we were told to ask someone else.
As for the tapas, everything was drenched in oil, paella was stodgy and the potatoes were similar to roasties you serve with beef.
If you're in Exeter and you fancy tapas, I wouldn't recommend La Tasca, at least for the time being, maybe in a few months they'll sort their act out. I haven't been in any of the other new restaurants in Princesshay yet, hopefully some of them are better organised than La Tasca.

I work at la tasca and yes, there were many teething problems at the beginning. However, we have worked on the problems that you have mentioned with practical and conversational troubleshooting exercises and have improved immensely. i strongly urge you to try us again at your earliest convenience as i think you will be pleasantly surprised by our progress
I went to la tasca just after it had started, and i must say that the service was damn good, so you must have been there on a bad day, i was with a group of 15 for a party and the staff were impecable, drinks were almost immeadiate, food was delicious and the atmosphere was great! Most definately going there again soon.
Just browsing the internet, interesting website.
Hiya Mostly mubling!
Sorry to disappoint you, but your optimism is unjustified! The Patatas Bravas are still roasties drenched in tomato puree, the staff are clueless, as is the manageress and when we visited on the 25th June 2007, a guy wearing a tight blue suit and training shoes seemed to have taken over the running of the restaurant! He was stood at the podium by the door greeting bemused diners, beer glass in hand. Odd thing was the manageress did nothing about it! I got 3 free beers as the waitress didn't charge from them: normally I would have owned up but the staff were so rude and disinterested, I didn't bother. My pain Fresco may have been fresco 2 days before, but it certainly wasn't when i got it!!! Give this place a wide berth: it might put you off proper Spanish cuisine for life!
Thanks for everyone's comments. I'm gonna need to hear quite a few positive comments about it before I go back!
One year on - stale french bread, mixed olives were horrible bland black olives from brine, granted the food came quick but the aubergine wasn't cooked properly, food incredibly greasy. Have learnt my lesson about mediocre-at-best chain restuarants but they are hard to avoid in Exeter
I went to La Tasca last Saturday and it was the worst service I had ever encountered.
We had to wait quite a while to get seated.
Wait at least 20 minutes for a waiter.
Waited another 10 minutes for the drinks to arrive and the order was incomplete.
The mains were put on the table before the starter dishes were removed. When I say put, I meant dropped. almost thrown onto the table.
The food was warm and bland - wonder why??
General attitude of staff was lethargic at best,. rude at worse !!
Never again !!!
