Weekend Away In St Ives

Last weekend we went down to St Ives to meet up with a few members of Rideout-SW. As my other half was on nights, we didn't manage to get down in time for the afternoon rideout, but arriving at the b&b at 5pm, I just had time for a chat over a glass of wine with another member staying down for the weekend before getting ready to go out on the town. Another member runs the Balancing Eel fish and chip shop near the harbour - its a takeaway downstairs and a restaurant upstairs and we had an excellent meal there before heading to the pub to meet the rest of the gang for what turned out to be a bloody good night out with mates. The next day we went to the other coast to have a look at St Michaels Mount before treating ourselves to a trip across the King Harry Ferry in order to stop in on my parents.

Now, the Feock side of the King Hary Ferry has two very sharp corners and the road is only wide enough for two vehicles to pass. In order to allow traffic to flow freely, there are white dotted lines in which to park your vehicle and yellow boxes on the corner to give people room to swing around. Its been a few years since I was last on there and I'd forgotten how such confusion could be caused by a bit of paint.

We had stopped slightly short of the line and were slightly surprised when a Land Rover Range Rover decided to park in front of us - with his back end half over the white line! I thought the all terrain response system should have managed to stop him behind us, but hey.

As it turned out, this was superb parking compared to the Discovery behind him which actually stopped to the right of the parking area! Nice one. He did attempt to get it a bit further to the left.... about 3 inches in the end.

It was clear once the occupants got out that neither Land Rover had ever seen any mud, these were slightly upper class people out for a drive in the countryside. But they did have a chat to us about the bike and biking, which was nice.

After that we went all the way up the A39 to Bideford, and back to Exeter via Torrington and Winkleigh.

I'm not sure if its my age, or just that I don't do it enough, but long rides like that don't do my legs and knees a lot of good, so its a good idea to do a bit of gentle exercise afterwards to get the feeling back again. Usually I do a bit of stretching in the lounge, but after seeing the wii fit wii game featured on the Gadget Show recently, I wondered if that would be just the thing to ease aching limbs as I ordered my Chinese takeaway.

I have to share this with you guys! The coolest way to blaze the roads on your motorcycle and ensure that other motorists notice you...is to check this place out - www.ironhorsehelmets.com ,they have some of the coolest bling for your helmets. We all have to be safe out there, but we can have fun doing it! One of the greatest benefits is the fact that YOU ARE NOTICED! It is shown that the majority of our motorcycle accidents are due to other motorists…who say they DO NOT SEE US!, lets throw that excuse out their window! Yeah I know the famous t-shirts all you fellows wear that say “If You Can Read This…The Bitch Fell Off” are the only accessory you feel you need, but I have to say, there is something hot about a guy with a Mohawk…..especially a purple one! I wear mine and I love it, I get lots of attention, not that a lady on a bike does not anyway…but the more the better! The helmets are affordable and I plan on getting a few for my riding buddies for Christmas gifts, I want to keep them safe, and I do think this is a cool way to do it….make motorcycle helmet wearing fun.
