The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Circuit

The brand new Abu Dhabi Grand Prix circuit, as driven by Bruno Senna (nephew of the late great Ayrton Senna) in a two seater racing car.

First impressions are that it looks a bit boring, although this could be because Bruno seemed to be taking it fairly easy. The underground pit lane exit looks narrow and the pit lane itself seems long, meaning a frequent fuel stops will probably be off the cards. I'm unsure about the runoff areas, they seem to be quite short and close to the crowd, particularly towards the end of the lap. A few people have described Abu Dhabi Grand Prix circuit as a glorified karting track, I guess we'll have to wait until race day to see how it really performs.

In the first practice, Hamilton and Button were swapping fastest laps, with Hamilton just getting the better of Button by 0.096 sec. Grip seems to be a problem so far with the track described as "very, very dusty and dirty with very low grip off the racing line" by Vettel. The shaded area beneath the Yas Hotel between turns 18 & 19 appears to be catching a few drivers out so far. Button, Webber and Rosberg all had moments there.

Dubai is just around the corner from Abu Dhabi, it would be a simple matter to get a flight to Dubai, see the sights there, then pop along to Abu Dhabi for the racing. Its nice to dream.

Baby Gift Baskets for an Office Present

If you are looking for a great gift for a baby shower, you may want to consider putting together a baby gift basket. This is an especially wonderful gift if you are part of a large group of people. Many office members decide to buy smaller items from the registry and display it in one larger basket altogether. Small items like rattles, pacifiers, infant washcloths and toys can be compiled with a few larger items.

You want to make the basket decorative and fun. There are infant carrier baskets that you can use, or laundry baskets. This way the basket is also part of the gift, not simply decorative. Another wonderful idea is to use a personalized laundry basket. Purchase clothesline and use laundry line clips to attach baby outfits to the line. Space the outfits out evenly. You will also want to mix the type of outfits that you use. Some should be simple things like onesies, while other should be sleepers and outerwear. Place the clothing covered clothesline in the baby hamper neatly. When the guest of honor or mother to be begins to remove the clothesline, they will pull out one outfit after another. This a more updated version of a traditional gift basket, but it goes over well at a shower and is always well received by the future parents.

This gift is also great for a large group. Assign someone to purchase the hamper. If it can be personalized this enhances the gift even more. You will also want someone to be responsible for buying each of the outfits. One person can get the clothesline and the clips.

When putting together a basket for a large group, make sure everyone is spending a comparable amount. Set a specific dollar amount that seems fair to everyone. Keep in mind that the front desk receptionist is probably not making as much money as the office manager. You want to involve everyone in the gift and make sure that the couple knows everyone who was involved in getting the gift. A card should definitely accompany the gift and should be signed by everyone who contributed. Ask the contributors to choose items that the couple selected on their registry. This will make the gift even more special to them. Keep in mind that no matter what you give, the new parents will love and appreciate it , as long as it is given with love.

Etihad Airways win TTG Travel Awards Airline of the Year

Etihad airways add another award to their growing collection by winning the TTG (travel Trade Gazette) Travel Awards Airline of the Year. Etihad are continually expanding the number of destinations, which include regular flights to Australia, Europe and the Middle East.

The judging includes rating from agents as well as representatives from the sector and the awards are presented by the Travel Trade Gazette.

In other categories, East Midlands airport won airport of the year and Queensland won an award for its Q factor promotions in the trade campaigns section.

Commenting on this year's programme, TTG editor Daniel Pearce said that award winners must have qualities that make other companies 'sit up and take notice'.

'We believe our winners, who have each taken the top prize after only the most rigorous of judging processes … have done exactly that,' he added.
